Boy Scout Troop 350 of Euclid, Ohio - those Badgers, Beavers, Panthers and Rattlesnakes - was sponsored by the First Baptist Church on Chardon Road. The church was down the block from Solon Drug on Euclid Avenue and across the street from Euclid Central Junior High. We met on Thursday nights for troop business, scout training and group games in the church gym. In the summer we'd meet at Euclid Creek Reservation to swat mosquitoes and look for poison ivy. Or so I remember.
The Pictures
The slides were in some 35mm Kodak carousels of my father's which found their way into my basement a long time ago and recently I digitized them. The converted pics are in a slideshow format and can be advanced with a mouse using the arrow controls, or by swiping on a touch screen. The captions under the photos are whatever was written on the 35mm slide frames, verbatim. For each set I've ID'd as many folks as I can and could use help with the rest.
Separately, there are a few other related photos and documents that I dug out of the archives.
The Scoutmasters
Paul Readett, Jr. (through 1959): Eagle scout; Order of the Arrow; led a group to Philmont including my brother (see below) and some guys we remember and some other guys we don't.
The Chroniclers
Erwin Dieckmann: Assistant scoutmaster from circa 1958 through 1963; my father. At scouting functions I spent most of my time avoiding him. Meanwhile he was actively helping to manage 40 rowdy boys and recording our camping exploits on film. He took us to Philmont. He and Mr. Petersen took us to Tinnerman. Thank you Dad.
